How Memrise taught me the basics of English grammar

I first learned English grammar when I was in elementary school.

I remember feeling a bit weird and I remember wondering what I was doing wrong.

The internet made it easy to learn.

It’s now been seven years since I started learning the language, and I still struggle with grammar.

It turns out there’s no one to blame.

When you are not on the internet, it’s impossible to practice your grammar.

I have to rely on my peers, like myself.

There are some good things about learning a new language, like a deeper understanding of its grammar.

But, as I have grown up, the internet has taken its toll on the way I speak.

I feel like the language I was taught has become my own, and the grammar I’m learning now is my own.

Here’s what I learned from Memrise, the online learning app that has taught me so much about the English language.

1.

Learn grammar first: “It’s the one thing that I’ve learned most in my life that I feel really grateful for is grammar,” says Sarah Kish, who has taught her English since middle school.

Kish has been learning English for a year.

“I feel like it’s been a blessing and it’s helped me feel more comfortable with myself.”

2.

It helps you think about grammar: It helps to understand grammar so you can do the hard work of spelling and grammar that will get you to the next level.

Learn a new word, or create a new verb, to say “thank you” to a person or thing.

3.

It makes you a better learner: “Grammar is the language that you speak and the language you use in conversation,” says Kish.

“It helps you to know what words are the most important and what words aren’t,” she adds.

“And it also helps you make sense of the language in a way that you can use to explain your thoughts.”

4.

It opens up a lot of space in your head: Grammar helps you remember things better.

You may forget a word or two when you’re reading an article online.

“There’s a lot that goes into that,” says Rachael Stelz, a professor of linguistics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

“Grams and sentences are the basis of what we call meaning.”

When you’re studying the language as a beginner, grammar helps you stay on track with your writing, as well.

5.

It lets you build connections: Grammars are a part of your vocabulary, so when you are in a group, you can talk about what you’ve learned.

You can also learn vocabulary that you didn’t know before.

And because it is your language, it is very valuable to learn it as a second language.

6.

You will learn more from it: Grammatical structures help you remember words better, because you can always use those words in conversation.

Grammar can also help you write better.

“For me, I am an optimist, and if I get good at writing, I will be able to write better,” Kish says.

7.

It can make you smarter: Grammatics is often used to teach a new technology, like artificial intelligence, to make its way into our lives.

“When you learn something new, you learn from your mistakes,” says Stellz.

So it makes sense that you would learn the grammar of a new tool, like Google Translate, if it is helpful for your understanding of the new language.

8.

It is helpful in a lot more ways than just writing: Grammatically, there are a lot different ways that grammar can help you.

“One of the things I really like about grammar is that it helps you understand your own language,” says Dr. Robert Wiedemann, an English professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

“If you learn how to say ‘thank you’ in a different way, you’ll be able understand your grammar more clearly.

So, if you understand the grammar you use when you talk to a stranger, you will understand your friend better.”

There are also many practical uses for grammar.

You might want to use it to make a point, such as to show your friend how to type a message in a chat app.

Or you might want the grammar to help you spell out your name.

Grammatical structure can also be used to help your students remember a word.

“You can use a grammar like ‘the day of the week’ to help the students remember the first day of a semester,” says Wiedermann.

“That’s a really good example of the type of language you can have with a grammar.”

9.

Grammatically correct: Grammas can be very tricky, so you need to be very careful when you use them.

Wiede and Kish have learned to use a variety of grammars to help their students.

“They have a lot in common and are really helpful
